After a 3.5 hour delay (the train originally scheduled to leave at 7:10pm), I’m finally in my seat ready to go visit a friend in Santa Barbara when I overhear a man and woman flirting in the seats in front of me.

“oh you’re headed to van nuys?”
“yeah, you too?”
“yeah!”
” lucky me”

The subtle laughter of the girl followed a phone call.

The boy answers “hey baby” and I see the girl move to the seat beside me.

What a dick. What a silly girl.

It brings me to a realization. Something I know but need to make incredibly clear.

Love is not a fairy tale. No relationship is ever perfect. But I here is what I know…

I deserve someone attentive, caring, willing to go the distance. Someone who will laugh at my jokes and realize that my neediness stems from a lack of appreciation as a child. I need a man who will not just act as though he loves me, but actually show me that he loves me through action and words.

I need and deserve the best. So is the best out there? Damn straight he is and I’m going to find him. Just not on the 10:45pm Amtrak train to Santa Barbara.
